I am not entirely sure if I will start a blog ‘series’ on bars in Brussels … as we tend to be very loyal to the few bars we know and like. But in case I change my mind, Potemkine is always a good place to start. The mastermind of Frederic Nicolay (the man behind the Zebra bar, Cafe Belga, Bar du Matin to name a few) Potemkine is the new kid on the Saint Gilles block. Already more than a year old but still young.
So if you are looking for a laid back bar, great music, live DJs, drinks on the cheaper side, breakfast and Sunday brunch then Potemkine is for you. It attracts a certain artsy/ intellecto crowd, but there is nothing wrong with that. The place itself is somewhere between retro, cozy and cool. And in the summer, if you are lucky, you can get a place on their terrace and listen to live bands. All in all Potemkine is what I would call a true portrayal of the Brussels ‘it’ bars which you need to adventure a little to find.
